Electricity and Gas Market Surveillance Commission
The EGC is Japan’s independent energy regulator. Our mission is to ensure affordable, stable, and diverse energy for all energy consumers through fair and diverse business opportunities for all business operators.
The EGC was established in September 2015 in order to encourage sound competition in the electricity and gas markets.
Besides strictly monitoring transactions in the markets, the EGC makes recommendations to the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry on necessary rulemaking.
