The Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) is the rule maker for Australian electricity and gas markets and provides market development advice to governments.
The AEMC is an independent statutory body that works for Australia’s future productivity and living standards by contributing to a decarbonising, affordable and reliable energy system for consumers.
Australia has legislated national energy objectives, which require all of the AEMC’s rule-making decisions, reviews, and advice to explicitly focus on the long-term interests of energy consumers by balancing the objectives of price, quality, safety, reliability and security of supply, and emissions reduction.
